A New Boss, Coach and a Place to Ride in Tuscany

A quick intro to the new owner, his passion for cycling (and therefore for cool cycling head accessories) and some exciting potential things he brings to the Tucker party...

Andy (alias: Jam), like most of you,  Andy has been stomping around on bikes from his early years. From paperboy to bike messenger, novice to Belgium kermesse racer, he’s been amongst lycra and spokes for years. Andy now lives with his wife and their four young girls in India where they volunteer at an orphanage, overseeing Full Tuck and a few other ventures to pay their way. With not a lot of safe riding around them in India (and for a Tucker worthy annual break), they sold their house in New Zealand and got a place in Italy to spend a couple of months each year (and take the odd cycling group)…more on that later!
Enough of this fluffy stuff, what about the Tucker basics in life…the cycle cap and glasses.

Cycle Caps

(or casquettes if you are French or fussy...I repeat myself)

When it comes to cycle caps, he tends to be a “keep the peak down, rainy/cold days” man. Having the largest head in the modern cycling era, many caps act more like a compression garment than headwear. At Full Tuck, Andy helps us ensure our “one size fits all” caps actually do fit the outer limits of head girths.

Eyewear

To avoid sitting in the front row in science class, and it’s associated social risks, Andy realised he needed spectacles. Briefly, for his riding, Andy tried the Fignon look (sans ponytail), but being a bit of a sweater, it became a tossup between glasses off or glasses sweaty as to which provided better vision…not ideal when you struggle to see the periodic table in Chemistry class!
This led to contact lenses (including a particularly funny incident during a rainy kermesse in Belgium, when his contact lens fell out...a story for another time). So good eyewear has been an important part of Andy’s riding: stopping the dreaded dry contacts, protecting from road chaff or “Ghent mud” (produced by Belgian Blues) and creating a happy environment on less than sunny days with John Lennon coloured lenses.
Since this is just an intro, we’ll keep it short and sweet, but perhaps a story or two will appear from time to time either in the blog or on the roads around Seggiano...

…Seggiano you say,

well Google it. Possibly the best riding in Tuscany and location of the large 8 bedroom house they bought and where they plan to run cycling camps/tours in the near future.

Coach

What doesn’t this guy do? Answer, crosswords and Brussel sprouts. He is however a kiwi and has a coaching business (Fitlab) where he has helped all levels of riders from weekend warriors to pros. Maybe he can help you or some tips might filter through to the Tuckers…actually, he even coached a guy nicknamed Tucky…prophetic?

A message from Andy...

When the opportunity came up to purchase Full Tuck I leapt at the chance. With a core group of faithful Tuckers and well designed and made cycling sunnies and caps, I could see an exciting team to be part of and share some epic rides with. I look forward to future links with Fitlab and Seggiano cycling adventures too!

Ciao,
Andy.
